Global IPO market capital surge
Overview
Global initial public offering (IPO) markets experienced a significant surge in capital during the first half of 2026. While the total number of listings was slightly lower than the previous year, the capital raised reached a historic $193.6 billion, more than tripling previous figures. A primary driver of this growth was the SpaceX listing on Nasdaq, which raised $86.3 billion.
Regional markets showed varied trends. In Finland, the market saw its strongest period in five years, with growth in sectors such as defense technology and quantum computing. In India, after a period of tepid activity in the early months of the year, the market saw a surge in the second half, with August recording 23 mainboard IPOs that raised Rs 22,439 crore. Bulk and block deals in the Indian market also reached a two-year peak in August, totaling Rs 98,353 crore.
Building on this momentum, the Indian primary market saw a rare occurrence on September 9, 2026, when six mainboard companies—Rentomojo, Asset Reconstruction Company (India), Manipal Payment & Identity Solutions, Steamhouse India, LCC Projects, and Karamtara Engineering—launched IPOs simultaneously. This marks the first time since October 1996 that exactly six IPOs have opened for subscription on the same day, with an expected total raise of approximately Rs 4,509 crore.
The Indian market is also preparing for massive upcoming offerings. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved IPOs for Jio Platforms and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Jio Platforms is expected to seek roughly Rs 37,800 crore, potentially becoming the largest IPO in Indian corporate history, while the NSE is expected to issue approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
