Greek government SME and housing financing initiatives
Overview
The Greek government has introduced several financial initiatives to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and housing. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that 1.5 billion euros from the Recovery Fund will be transferred to the Hellenic Development Bank (EAT) to facilitate SME lending, aiming for a total of 5 billion euros in financing through private capital leverage. He also announced the ‘Spiti mou III’ housing program, valued at 2 billion euros, scheduled for implementation in early 2027.
Deputy Minister of Development Stavros Kalafatis further detailed three primary financing pillars for SMEs. These include a 2.2 billion euro tax relief package featuring reduced tax advances and income tax reductions, a second pillar of low-cost liquidity and subsidies—including nearly 1 billion euros for investment projects in Macedonia and Thrace—and a third pillar focused on risk capital and innovation, supported by 3.5 billion euros from the European Investment Bank.
