Overview

The Municipal Council is scheduled to convene on September 9, 2026, to address 16 agenda items, including the amendment of the 2026 technical program, the reshaping of the financial budget, and the approval of judicial expenses. The session will also consider requests for the free use of municipal spaces—such as the former Markopoulou camp, various gymnasiums, and the Varypetra football field—as well as the naming of streets and squares and compensation for property demolitions in Panos Souda and Kato Souda.

Additionally, Mayor Simanidrakis held a working meeting with the Architects Association of Chania Prefecture to discuss large-scale technical and urban planning issues. The Mayor emphasized the necessity of institutional dialogue and cooperation with professional bodies to facilitate the design of public spaces and the city’s upcoming development period.
