Honda Super-ONE EV rollout faces supply and demand shifts

Overview

In late July 2026, Honda began the Asia-Pacific rollout of its Super-ONE electric hatchback. Following a successful debut in Indonesia, where 2026 allocations sold out quickly, the model expanded into Thailand. The Thai launch features a CBU model priced at 990,000 baht, equipped with a 29.6 kWh battery, a 70 kW motor, and a specialized “BOOST” mode that uses simulated gear shifts and active sound control to mimic an internal combustion engine. A limited edition of 30 units is expected to begin deliveries in November 2026.

In Australia, demand has been exceptionally high. Following an initial allocation of approximately 125 units that sold out within hours, Honda confirmed that all 2026 model year orders are fully booked. To meet demand, Honda has opened orders for 2027 deliveries. Supply risks persist due to a major earthquake in Japan, which caused the suspension of operations at several facilities, including the Suzuka plant. While these halts were expected to last until at least 19 August, the impact on availability remains a consideration.

By late August, Honda expanded its marketing efforts in Japan through a “Super-ONE Idol Operation” campaign, featuring collaborations with the fashion magazine ‘non-no’ and the biscuit brand ‘Tabekko Doubutsu’. The vehicle, built on the Honda N-ONE e: platform, has received praise for its driving dynamics. Reports suggest the 95-horsepower EV has provided a highly engaging experience, with some noting that Honda successfully brought the product to market despite potential profitability concerns that might have deterred other manufacturers.
