On 31 July 2026, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán announced the termination of 25 ambassadorial assignments, including posts in Washington, Brussels, Moscow, London, Belgrade and other capitals, as well as heads of mission to NATO, the United Nations and other multilateral bodies. The decree, signed by President Tamás Sulyok, was presented as a professional renewal aimed at strengthening Hungary’s diplomatic effectiveness and international advocacy.

The recall was reported alongside an EU interior‑minister video conference convened after a tragic migration incident off Ceuta, where 72 bodies were recovered from the sea. While the migration crisis dominated the broader European discussion, the Hungarian diplomatic reshuffle was highlighted as a separate but concurrent development in the region’s foreign‑policy landscape.
