India automotive market: Kia expands EV and hybrid launches

Overview

In early July 2026, Kia India announced the upcoming launch of two new electrified models: the Syros EV, a sub‑compact SUV priced around ₹14‑20 lakh, and the Sorento hybrid, the brand’s first three‑row hybrid for India. The strong‑hybrid version is anticipated to deliver approximately 238‑241 bhp and 380 Nm of torque via a six‑speed automatic transmission, with a 2.2-L turbo-diesel engine also expected.

On 19 August, Kia confirmed the Sorento Hybrid will officially launch in India on 4 September 2026. This launch will introduce All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to Kia’s internal combustion engine lineup in the country. A notable technological addition for the model is “Live Gen AI,” an in-car assistant designed for intelligent conversational capabilities and voice control through natural language commands.
