Ironman World Championship professional field updates

The professional field for the men’s Ironman World Championship in Hawaii has been finalized with 56 athletes. Notable competitors include Norway’s Gustav Iden, Kristian Blummenfelt, and reigning champion Casper Stornes, as well as world record holder Sam Laidlow. Belgian athlete Marten Van Riel is also highlighted as a top contender. In preparation for the championship and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, Kristian Blummenfelt is undergoing intensive altitude training in St. Moritz, utilizing high-intensity cycling and track sessions.

IRONMAN has also released the official professional women’s starter list for the Kailua-Kona event. The field includes 54 top triathletes competing for a $375,000 total prize pool, with the winner receiving $125,000. German champion Laura Philipp is among the favorites. Other key competitors include Solveig Løvseth and Katrina Matthews, who shared the 2025 podium. Additionally, Italian triathlete Elisabetta Curridori is confirmed to compete, noting she is currently focusing on heat and humidity adaptation in Banyoles following a recent bout with plantar fasciitis.

Following the finalization of the current championship fields, IRONMAN announced the first 20 qualifying races for the 2027 Kona World Championship. These full-distance events are scheduled to occur between August 22 and December 6, 2026, across various countries including Estonia, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Portugal, Australia, and Argentina. Each race provides between 45 and 100 qualifying slots.
