Italian school renovation funding

Italian municipalities continue to grapple with uneven financial capacity for school upgrades. In Verona, the Dante Sauro Spaccini school still faces a shortfall of more than €400,000 after the region pledged €2.6 million of the €3 million needed, prompting Councilor Rosanna Pucci to call for additional local resources. Nearby Pioltello approved a “Right to Study” plan for 2026‑2027, earmarking €3.524 million for school spending, including €435,020 for extraordinary works and €1.84 million for ordinary maintenance, a 50 % cut from the previous year as major projects wind down.

Sardinia’s refurbishment drive is progressing: the Lattes preschool in Sassari has completed a €1.2 million energy‑saving overhaul—new insulation, windows and a solar‑powered heat‑pump—allowing children to return in September, with the work inspected by local officials. In Porto Torres, a €1.075 million contract awarded to the Italcentro Scarl consortium and Sirimed srl will transform the historic Edmondo De Amicis primary school into a multifunctional cultural hub housing a library, student centre, “university of the third age” and concert spaces.

Further north, Galliate (Piedmont) secured a €293,000 GSE Conto Termico 3.0 grant to insulate a middle‑school roof and connect an existing photovoltaic system, addressing fire‑safety and efficiency. In Basilicata, Sasso di Castalda obtained a €1.14 million incentive to retrofit its school into a near‑zero‑energy building, cutting demand and boosting renewable use.

In August 2026, the municipal council of Rodari approved an additional €66,000 for the ongoing renovation of the Rodari school gym. The amendment expands the project to include external corridor refurbishment, a new roof canopy linking to the primary school, external thermal insulation, façade restoration, sewer upgrades, sub‑soil remediation, a wooden floor replacement and the installation of air‑source heat pumps with ceiling destratifiers, aiming to complete the complex to a higher standard while improving functionality and appearance.
