Japanese drama “Confession – 25th Year Secret” concludes

Overview

The Nippon TV suspense drama “Confession – 25th Year Secret,” starring Matsumura Hokuto as Sota Yukimura, has reached its conclusion. The series, which explored themes of unrequited love and long-buried crimes, culminated in a series finale titled “I Have Loved You for 25 Years.”

In the final episode, the central mystery regarding the death of Kyoko, the biological mother of Mariko Nose (Sae Okazaki), is resolved. Sota discovers that the true culprit was detective Taisuke Sakura (Tetsuji Tamayama), who, at age 18, staged the death to appear as a suicide. As Sota attempts to protect Mariko from both the truth and the danger posed by Sakura, Mariko deals with unsettling secrets revealed by her father concerning her stepmother.

The finale follows Mariko as she visits Sakura’s studio, unaware of his twisted obsession with her, leaving the resolution of Sota’s 25-year unrequited love in suspense.

Prior to the finale, the ninth episode, “All the Doors to the Secrets Have Opened,” served as a major turning point where Sota revealed the reasons behind his actions over the last 25 years. This period also saw the continuation of the Hulu spin-off “Repo: Ano Hi no Shinjitsu,” providing retrospective insights through the perspective of former police officer Kyosuke Tani.
