Japanese holiday events and Christmas markets 2026
Overview
Various locations across Japan have announced schedules for Christmas-themed events and markets for late 2026.
In Osaka, the ‘Christmas Market in Osaka Ten-Shiba 2026’ is set for Tennoji Park from November 20 to December 25. The event will feature 24 stalls offering German-style gourmet food, sweets, and drinks, such as sausages, goulash, and hot cocoa, alongside themed illuminations like a light tunnel. In Sendai, the ‘Sendai Christmas Market 2026’ will mark its fifth anniversary at Nishikicho Park from December 4 to December 25, utilizing wooden huts inspired by European traditions. While admission is generally free, a cooperation fee including an original mug is required on specific dates.
Major landmarks in Tokyo have also released programming. Tokyo Skytree will host ‘Dream Christmas 2026’ from November 5 to December 25, featuring the ‘Starlight and Gold’ illumination theme using approximately 400,000 lights. Highlights include an eight-meter ‘WISH UPON A STAR TREE’, a ‘STARRY DOME’ installation, and a Christmas market in the Sky Arena. The program also includes musical performances and candlelight classical concerts on December 24 and 25. Additionally, the Tokyo Tower Christmas Market 2026 is scheduled from November 13 to December 25 at the plaza in front of the main entrance, offering eight huts with seasonal food and drinks.
Further celebrations include the ‘THE HOLIDAY SCENE CHRISTMAS MARKET’ in Shinjuku, ‘MIDTOWN YAESU CHRISTMAS 2026’, and Nagoya’s ‘SAKAE Christmas Memories 2026’. In Fukuoka, ‘Nakasu Hikari no Advent’ will run from November 2, 2026, to January 12, 2027, featuring street illuminations and a lighting ceremony. In Yokohama, the ‘Christmas Market in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse’ is set for November 20 to December 25, featuring a Pokémon collaboration to commemorate the brand's 30th anniversary.
