Japanese hospitality sector developments

Developments in the Japanese hospitality sector include new hotel openings, anniversary celebrations, and specialized regional tourism offerings.

In Hokkaido, HAKODATE Kaikyo no Kaze is marking its 10th anniversary with a ‘Lucky Bag Plan’ featuring prizes such as room upgrades. Additionally, Hasegawa Hotel & Resort is launching Y’s HOTEL Asahikawa Ekimae, while the Yamaneko Shigoto Group has opened Hotel Enmichi in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Other providers are focusing on unique amenities and dining. Oedo Onsen Monsen Monogatari Premium Nagasaki Hotel Seifu is highlighting its ‘Tenbo no Yu’ and ‘Manten no Yu’ baths on Mount Inasa, which provide 270-degree panoramic views of Nagasaki City and Nagasaki Bay. In Hakone, Ichinoyu Co., Ltd. has launched seasonal accommodation plans featuring high-quality tiger pufferfish (fugu) sourced from Shimonoseki, offering options such as fugu sashimi paired with Yonezawa beef shabu-shabu.

Recent recognitions and upcoming luxury projects also mark the sector. Yahataya, located in Bohata Onsen, Fukushima Prefecture, has been named one of the ‘Top 100 Hotels and Ryokans in Japan’ for 2027, noted for its ‘Kikyo-tei’ annex and views of the Abukuma mountains. Furthermore, the luxury resort seven x seven Yufuin is scheduled to open in Oita Prefecture in April 2027. The 39-room property will feature private hot spring baths, with high-end suites including private saunas and outdoor pools. The resort will host a thermal spa designed by Avanto Architects and dining managed by the Isseki Sanshoku Group.
