Jesse & Joy transition following Jesse Huerta’s retirement

Overview

Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy is undergoing a significant transition following Jesse Huerta’s decision to retire from the stage to focus on his family and emotional well-being. While initial reports described the hiatus as indefinite, Joy Huerta has since clarified that the musical project will continue. During a recent press conference, Joy revealed she was caught by surprise by the decision, learning of it only 20 minutes before the public announcement. She expressed significant emotional distress, stating, ‘I am dying of fear,’ but emphasized her commitment to the fans and the legacy built over the last two decades. Joy confirmed she will continue performing under the Jesse & Joy name to honor their shared musical legacy. Jesse is expected to fulfill his remaining commitments with the duo until December 5, 2026. He will not participate in the duo’s performance at the Auditorio Nacional on December 6, 2026. The duo’s international tour will proceed as scheduled through November, including a final performance in London. In addition to the hiatus from the duo, Jesse has announced a new solo musical project titled ‘Jesse and the Supernovas,’ a pop-rock concept performed in English. Recent developments have highlighted growing friction between the siblings. During a concert in Chile on September 30, social media footage captured visible tension between the two; while Jesse attempted to approach Joy with a smile during the song ‘¿Con quién se queda el perro?’, Joy appeared visibly uncomfortable and maintained physical distance. Jesse has previously faced boos from audience members while explaining his departure. Family members have also provided context regarding the transition. Jesse’s wife, Mónica León, clarified that her recent social media activity was intended to correct misinformation rather than target Joy.
