Jorge Luis Borges 40th anniversary commemorations

In late July 2026, the 40th anniversary of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges’s death was marked by a series of cultural events. A five‑hour documentary, *Biografía de Jorge Luis Borges*, directed by Mariano Llinás, premiered out of competition in the non‑fiction section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, spotlighting Borges’s life from his Buenos Aires childhood to his worldwide literary influence. At the same time, Alfaguara announced the 2026 release of *Conferencias reunidas 1960‑1985*, a compiled volume of Borges’s lectures edited by Sara Luisa del Carril.

In Argentina, provincial authorities organized local celebrations. In Junín, the 22nd Feria del Libro opened on 30 July with workshops, exhibitions and a program titled “Junín vuelve a Borges,” attended by Mayor Juan Fiorini. In Córdoba, the Biblioteca Córdoba hosted a free public dialogue “Pensar Borges” on 28 July, featuring writer María Teresa Andruetto and philosopher Diego Tatián, organized by the Biblioteca Nacional’s Juan Filloy branch and the Agencia Córdoba Cultura.
