Josh Berry secures Legacy Motor Club seat for 2027
Overview
NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Berry has secured a new contract for the 2027 season, ending his search for a team after being informed he would not return to Wood Brothers Racing.
Legacy Motor Club announced that Berry will drive the No. 42 Toyota starting in 2027, succeeding John Hunter Nemechek. The announcement was made by Jimmie Johnson via the team’s ‘The Club’ platform.
The move follows a period of significant performance improvements for Berry. During his final stretch with Wood Brothers Racing, he achieved a streak of six consecutive top-10 finishes, highlighted by a seventh-place result at the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. This run represented the longest such streak for a Wood Brothers driver since the mid-1970s. Prior to the Darlington result, Berry maintained momentum with an eighth-place finish at Richmond Raceway, marking his third consecutive top-10 result at that time.
Berry, 35, enters the new role having secured one Cup Series victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2025. His career also includes five wins in NASCAR’s second-tier series between 2021 and 2023.
