Kuching City FC football performance and regional expansion

Overview

Kuching City FC has maintained competitive form across Malaysian and regional football competitions. In the FA Cup, the club advanced to the quarter-finals following a 5-1 victory over Kelantan Red Warriors, featuring two goals from Ronald Ngah Wanjah. However, the club later faced a 1-2 defeat against Selangor FC in the first leg of the FA Cup semi-finals at MBPJ Stadium. Despite an early goal by Ramadhan Saifullah, Selangor responded to secure the win. Head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak expressed optimism for the second leg, though some supporters have criticized player Safawi Rasid’s impact.

In Liga Super competition, Kuching City secured a 2-0 victory against Sabah FC and a 2-1 win against Melaka FC, the latter achieved despite playing with 10 men after a red card for Yuki Tanigawa.

Regionally, the club has expanded into the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup, making its debut against Tampines Rovers FC at Taha Ariffin Stadium. In the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2), Kuching City faced a 2-1 loss to Phnom Penh Crown FC in their group stage opener. They later played to a 1-1 draw against Kitchee SC in a Group H encounter on October 15, 2026, following an own goal by Pong Cheuk Hei. Following this result, Kuching City and Kitchee sit in second and third place in Group H, respectively. Kuching City is scheduled to face Gangwon FC in South Korea on October 29.
