Legal education and judicial access initiatives in Argentina
Overview
Judicial institutions in Argentina and Chile continue to implement various legal education, professional training, and community engagement initiatives. In Argentina, the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco and the Ministry of Justice, directed by Minister Juan Bautista Mahiques and co-directed by Javier Leal de Ibarra, have launched a 132-hour hybrid University Diploma in Professional Practice in the Federal Accusatory Penal System. Running from September 2026 to March 2027, the program covers oral litigation, complex crime investigation, and the responsible application of artificial intelligence.
Educational efforts have expanded through specialized lectures and civic engagement. In Tierra del Fuego, Judge Javier Darío Muchnik delivered a lecture on the Theory of Crime, covering criminal responsibility, intent, and legal argumentation. In Chile, the Juzgado de Garantía in Coyhaique hosted students from Colegio Mater Dei for a practical role-playing session led by Judge Fabiola Muñoz Fierro, part of an open justice program to strengthen civic education.
New territorial assistance and gender-focused programs are also emerging. The Justice Access Center (CAJ), under the National Ministry of Justice, will begin providing free guidance on judicial procedures, documentation, and family or labor issues in the San Benito neighborhood of Río Gallegos starting in November. Additionally, the Gender Office of the Judiciary in Santa Fe is conducting working sessions in Rafaela to integrate gender perspectives into judicial processes and improve strategic responses to gender-based violence.
National coordination remains a priority through the Federal Board of Courts and Superior Courts (JUFEJUS), which continues to address institutional operations, technological innovation, and judicial training.
