LinkedIn AI content surge, reporting button added (2026)

Entities: LinkedIn · Hari Srinivasan · Pangram · Microsoft · 404 Media

Overview

A July 2026 Pangram analysis of more than one million public posts across LinkedIn, X, Medium, Substack and Reddit found that roughly 40‑41 % of long‑form LinkedIn posts (over 250 words) are fully AI‑generated, another 4 % are mixed, and about 55 % are human‑written. LinkedIn accounts for about one‑third of the posts examined but contributes 62 % of the AI‑generated material, with an estimated 30 % of short‑form posts also likely AI‑produced.

On July 30, LinkedIn introduced a “Seems like AI slop” reporting button in the three‑dot menu of every post. The option, first rolled out in Brazil and expanding globally, lets members flag low‑effort, AI‑generated content; the flagged item is hidden from the reporter’s feed and a brief thank‑you notice is shown. Chief product officer Hari Srinivasan said the feature is a top priority and will feed into LinkedIn’s classifiers to improve feed relevance. Simultaneously, the platform is withdrawing its own AI‑assisted writing tool and replacing it with a proofreading feature that preserves the author’s voice.

LinkedIn also reports blocking hundreds of thousands of automated comments each day, using the new flags to further train its moderation systems. Pangram continues to offer its Chrome extension for AI‑content detection at $20 per month, warning that unchecked AI output could erode authenticity in online discourse.
