Lithuanian agricultural financial support measures

Overview

The Lithuanian government and the European Union are implementing various financial assistance measures to support the agricultural sector. One initiative involves the Lithuanian government providing nearly 20 million euros to compensate farmers for rising production costs linked to fuel and fertilizer prices.

Specifically, the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a €19.576 million support package intended for distribution between October and November. This aid targets milk producers and crop farmers, with dairy assistance based on the number of milking cows in the Livestock Register, and crop assistance determined by the area of declared crops such as cereals, rapeseed, potatoes, and sugar beets. Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Mažeika indicated that small and medium-sized farms—specifically those with up to 300 hectares or 300 dairy cows—could potentially receive up to €4,500, though final calculation methods remain subject to change.

Separately, under the Lithuanian Agriculture and Rural Development Strategic Plan 2023–2027, fruit and vegetable producers can apply for sectoral intervention support through recognized producer organizations to assist with modernization and climate resilience.

Additionally, the Ministry has allocated 1.525 million euros for ‘Consulting Services’ throughout September. This funding is split between the capital region (610,800 EUR) and Central and Western Lithuania (914,200 EUR). The measure covers 100% of eligible costs at a fixed rate of 58 EUR per hour, targeting farmers and forest managers focusing on environmental and climate-beneficial topics, such as soil protection, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation. Individual recipients can receive up to 2,000 EUR for a maximum of 34 consultations during the 2023–2027 period.
