Ljubljana bus and railway station infrastructure updates

Overview

The Ljubljana main bus station has completed its relocation to a temporary site near Masarykova cesta, approximately 200 meters east of the former location. Managed by Nomago, the new facility features 46 platforms—a roughly 50 percent increase in capacity intended to improve traffic flow. Key upgrades include the ability to pay for tickets via bank cards, a traffic office with five sales windows managed by both Ljubljana Bus Station and Slovenske železnice (SŽ), and access to Nomago Bikes rental stations. While amenities such as luggage lockers and restrooms are being rolled out gradually, intercity bus schedules are expected to remain unchanged.

Parallel infrastructure developments at the Ljubljana Railway Station have reached a milestone with the completion of primary work on platform infrastructure. The Directorate of RS for Infrastructure reported that temporary platforms have been removed, and passenger trains have returned to the station’s central platforms. Seven new platforms are now available, intended to provide faster and easier access for SŽ passengers.

Despite these advancements, construction remains active in other areas. Ongoing works include the southern side for overpass construction and its connection to the station, a bridge connecting the new overpass to Emonika, an underpass linking the platform to the old station building, and stairs near the new temporary bus station.
