Malaysia 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations

Overview

Preparations for Malaysia’s 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations proceeded under the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”.

As of late August, preparations at Dataran Putrajaya were over 70% complete. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil highlighted unique elements for the parade, including the debut of a 100-member contingent from the Johor Military Force (JMF). To assist attendees, MRT services operated 24 hours a day on August 30 and 31. National month initiatives included a 10GB free internet data incentive and various local support measures, such as electricity rebates and municipal discounts.

Following the National Day festivities, the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebrations were held at the Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK) in Sarawak. Despite regional haze, the event drew thousands of attendees. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several initiatives to support citizens and strengthen federal-state relations. These included improved diesel subsidies via the BUDI program, RM500 one-off flight ticket assistance for students entering public universities, and an interim payment of RM1.5 billion for Sabah and Sarawak. The Prime Minister also noted that nine out of 13 issues regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have been resolved.

State-level celebrations also occurred in Sabah and Pahang. In Sabah, officials emphasized that well-being must be felt through economic opportunity and cultural preservation, while in Pahang, over 7,000 people gathered in Temerloh for festivities including cultural performances and community walks.
