Caribbean resort expansion and renovations (July 2026)
Entities: Marriott International · Hard Rock Hotel Cancun · Erika Cruz · Hard Rock Hotels · Ximo Blanch
Overview
In late July 2026 Marriott International disclosed two new partnership agreements with Spain’s Catalonia Hotels & Resorts, formalised on 22 July in Barcelona. The deals will add a 522‑room Marriott All‑Inclusive resort on the former Catalonia Montego Bay site, slated for a 2028 opening and featuring 13 food outlets, three pools, extensive meeting space, spa, fitness centre, tennis and pickleball courts, a lazy river and more than 650 m of beachfront. A second project, an Autograph Collection resort in Zanzibar, Tanzania, will open in 2027 with 271 rooms centred on wellness amenities.
Hard Rock Hotels announced that its flagship all‑inclusive resorts in Mexico will close for five‑month refurbishments: Hard Rock Hotel Cancun will suspend operations on 3 August 2026 and reopen on 16 December 2026, while Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta will close on 20 July 2026 and reopen on 17 December 2026. Renovations will redesign rooms, refresh public areas, modernise meeting facilities and rebuild the beach‑front wedding chapel in Vallarta as an ocean‑view Catholic chapel.
The Royalton brand continues its Caribbean rollout, with three Negril locations reopening on 25 August and the Blue Waters Montego Bay property resuming on 15 September, each offering refreshed suites, new dining concepts and expanded adult‑only and family amenities.
Together, these announcements illustrate a coordinated push by major hotel operators to expand and modernise their all‑inclusive portfolios across the Caribbean and East Africa ahead of peak travel periods.
