Morocco diaspora development initiatives

Overview

In early August 2026, Morocco marked its National Day for citizens abroad on 10 August, emphasizing the diaspora’s role in the kingdom’s 2030 development agenda, including infrastructure, digital transformation, energy transition, water management and the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup. Concurrently, from 10 to 13 August the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation hosted an Investment Week for Moroccans living abroad, showcasing regional economic opportunities, providing guidance on investment processes, and linking diaspora investors with local businesses. Both events were framed as part of King Mohammed VI’s vision to mobilise the skills and capital of the Moroccan diaspora as a driver of economic, social and territorial development.

Regional celebrations of the National Day under the theme “Moroccans Residing Abroad in Service of Morocco’s 2030 Projects” expanded across several provinces. In Marrakech-Safi, officials focused on the importance of diaspora expertise in technology and innovation, utilizing digital platforms and public institution services to simplify administrative procedures. In Nouaceur, authorities emphasized the strategic value of the diaspora in relation to industrial zones and proximity to Mohammed V International Airport, utilizing specialized offices to manage expatriate needs and grievances.

In Tiznit, the governor, Abderrahmane El Jaouhari, also marked the National Day by emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening communication channels with citizens living overseas. Similar to other regions, the Tiznit event utilized dedicated pavilions to facilitate direct dialogue and provide information regarding administrative services and the diaspora's potential to support the kingdom's 2030 development goals.
