Morocco diaspora development initiatives

Overview

In August 2026, Morocco launched several initiatives to integrate its diaspora into the kingdom’s 2030 development agenda, which encompasses infrastructure, digital transformation, energy transition, water management, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The National Day for Moroccans living abroad, observed on 10 August under the slogan “Moroccans living abroad serving Morocco’s 2030 projects,” was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. To support economic integration, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation hosted an Investment Week from 10 to 13 August. This program utilized regional investment centers to showcase economic opportunities, provide briefings on support mechanisms for small and medium enterprises, and connect diaspora investors with local business actors. Regional celebrations emphasized localized strategic values. In Marrakech-Safi, officials highlighted the importance of diaspora expertise in technology and innovation. In Nouaceur, authorities focused on the diaspora’s potential to support industrial zones near Mohammed V International Airport. In Tiznit, Governor Abderrahmane El Jaouhari emphasized strengthening communication channels and used dedicated pavilions to facilitate direct dialogue regarding administrative services and the diaspora's role in national development goals. Expanding these efforts internationally, the Morocco-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CEMC) scheduled an economic summit in Montreal for 19 September. Operating under the theme “From Intention to Investment,” the event aims to connect entrepreneurs, investors, and project leaders to move beyond simple trade toward concrete industrial and commercial projects. Following these economic efforts, the inaugural Gala de l’Excellence Marocaine was held in Montreal, organized by the media platform Made in Morocco MTL. The ceremony honored eight laureates across categories including Leadership, Innovation, Community Impact, and Arts & Culture to highlight diaspora contributions to Canadian society.
