Germany police investigations – July 2026

Entities: Hannover Hauptbahnhof · Hamburg Hauptbahnhof · Rostock Hauptbahnhof · Federal Police of Germany

Overview

Police investigations across several German states remain active on a range of incidents, with a growing emphasis on railway‑station safety. Following the July 19 market‑square clash in Lingen, authorities have intensified security at train stations. In Lower Saxony, officers again conducted 771 identity checks, 898 searches and seized 75 knives, an axe, a baseball bat, an iron rod and drug caches at sites in Göttingen, Hameln and Hildesheim, while installing video surveillance and a weapons‑prohibited zone around the Waageplatz area. Dortmund federal police responded to two separate violent episodes at the Hauptbahnhof and an S‑Bahn station, detaining a 32‑year‑old with a concealed knife and a 44‑year‑old who threw a bottle and stones, injuring a conductor.

On 24‑25 July, the Federal Police launched a nationwide anti‑violence operation at major stations. At Rostock Hauptbahnhof, 267 identities were recorded, 214 people and belongings were searched and twelve investigations opened, yielding cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis, ecstasy and cash. Concurrent actions at Hamburg and Hannover stations involved about 200 officers, 1,570 identity checks, 440 searches and the seizure of knives, drugs and pepper‑spray devices, including a replica medieval sword carried by a 23‑year‑old woman.

Police continue to urge anyone with information or video evidence to come forward.
