National Highway 28B subsidence in Lâm Đồng

Overview

Severe land subsidence and erosion have impacted National Highway 28B in Lâm Đồng Province, specifically near the Đại Ninh Pass and Phan Sơn Commune. Initial reports indicated that heavy rainfall caused the road surface to sink and crack over a 50 meter stretch, while fissures appeared on adjacent slopes, increasing landslide risks.

By late October, the situation escalated in the Phúc Thọ commune area of Lâm Hà district. Continuous heavy rainfall since early September caused the road surface to sink approximately 35 cm, with cracks reaching up to 70 meters in length and 20 cm in depth. Due to the high risk of road fractures and landslides, authorities implemented a total traffic ban on the section between Km136+800 and Km136+900. The damage has also extended toward the edge of the Đồng Nai 3 hydroelectric reservoir.

On October 30, field inspections revealed that cracks were expanding at a rate of 0.5 to 10 cm per day. By early November, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee declared a natural disaster emergency for the affected stretch. Despite previous attempts to stabilize the area using aggregate and concrete, the ground remains unstable, with sinkholes appearing on the shoulders and damage extending over a 100 meter area. Authorities have implemented traffic diversion measures, installed warning signs, and deployed personnel to regulate vehicles while the Department of Construction prepares emergency repairs.
