Netflix releases Lupin season four

Overview

Netflix has released the fourth season of the French suspense series ‘Lupin’, which premiered worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026, following a three-year hiatus. The new season consists of eight episodes, all available for streaming simultaneously. Set approximately four years after the events of the third installment, the plot finds protagonist Assane Diop, played by Omar Sy, in prison. Diop had surrendered to protect his family, intending to serve his sentence to fulfill a promise to visit family in Senegal. However, his plans are disrupted by a series of coordinated museum robberies that bear the ‘Lupin’ signature and a mysterious communication that threatens his future.

Despite his incarceration, security footage appears to implicate Diop in the heists, as an impostor utilizes advanced technology, such as deepfakes and hacking, to frame him. To clear his name and unmask the imitator, Diop must attempt a prison escape and reluctantly reclaim his persona as a master thief. The season involves a pursuit of the French Crown Jewels and a confrontation with old adversaries, including Hubert Pellegrini. Omar Sy, who is also serving as a producer for the first time this season, previously noted that the installment would feature “increased action and a high-energy opening.”

Following its release, the season reached the number one spot in several countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, and Nigeria. While the season achieved a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audience reactions have been mixed due to shifts in tone. In Germany, the release faced controversy when several prominent voice actors left the project due to disputes involving AI clauses in contracts, resulting in a nearly complete recast for the German dubbed version. Although Netflix has not officially confirmed a fifth season, screenwriter Florent Meyer indicated that the writing team is already working on the next installment.
