However, the influenza vaccination rollout faced delays due to production and delivery issues following WHO recommendations to adjust virus strains, with some patients potentially waiting until December for flu shots.

As the campaign officially commenced, data from the RIVM indicated a continuing downward trend in the number of registered vaccinations. While millions were administered in 2021, the number has declined annually, reaching approximately 2.2 million last year. Health officials noted this decline is partly due to a narrowing target group, as certain demographics, such as pregnant women, are no longer automatically included in the primary invitation group. While those aged 70 and older receive automatic invitations, individuals aged 50 to 69 with specific underlying medical conditions must check their eligibility and schedule appointments through the GGD.
