Norway TV-aksjonen refugee fundraising campaign

Overview

The TV-aksjonen fundraising campaign in Norway is organizing efforts to support the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). The initiative aims to provide aid, including safe housing, water, and sanitation, to displaced populations in regions such as Syria, Gaza, Afghanistan, Chad, Sudan, and DR Congo.

Initial preparations focused on recruiting volunteers for door-to-door collections. Local officials in areas like Vestland and Oppdal reported significant shortages of participants needed to reach targeted households. As the campaign progressed, efforts shifted toward highlighting personal stories of displacement. Participants from Afghanistan, Sudan, and Syria shared cultural narratives to encourage donations for emergency shelters and legal assistance.

Ahead of the scheduled campaign date on Sunday, October 18, the initiative expanded its engagement through various auctions, featuring items such as a World Cup drum and a jacket worn by the character Harry Hole. Corporate involvement also emerged, exemplified by the company Computas hosting a ‘Kode med mening’ (Coding with Meaning) workshop, where employees raised over 50,000 NOK.

On October 18, the campaign concluded with a total of 251 million NOK raised for the NRC, compared to 275 million NOK the previous year. While the specific fundraising goal was not met, organizers reported a strong mobilization of approximately 65,000 collectors. Kristin Skogen Lund, board chair of the NRC, noted that nearly 100 percent of the funds will go directly toward the intended humanitarian purposes. The campaign also featured participation from King Harald V, who collected donations in Kvitsøy.
