The song blends traditional outlaw country with 90s shoegaze textures to explore the denial Peck experienced during his entry into treatment. Directed by Austin Peters, the video juxtaposes the reality of rehab, such as therapy and urine tests, with choreographed, musical-style fantasy sequences. Peck noted the song’s exuberant tone reflects his “arrogant mindset” during the crisis, where he viewed the experience as a lighthearted musical despite being in the “worst places” of his life. The video features recurring figures from his previous works, including Noah Cyrus, Allison Russell, and Cathy Cooper, appearing as figments of his mind. To support the album, Peck will launch the “Man Turned Mule” Tour on 18 September at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
