Paris Brunner transfer and contract developments

Overview

German striker Paris Brunner has experienced a highly successful period at AS Monaco, following his 2024 transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Initially, reports indicated that Dortmund was monitoring Brunner’s development in Ligue 1, with sporting director Lars Ricken stating that “the doors are not closed for Paris,” despite a return not being an immediate priority. As Brunner’s form improved—scoring six goals in seven competitive matches and performing well for the German U21 national team—AS Monaco entered negotiations to extend his contract, which is currently set to run until June 2028. Monaco aims to secure his future early to capitalize on his breakout season and avoid potential transfer complications. Regarding his relationship with his former club, it has been clarified that Dortmund holds a ‘matching right’ rather than a standard buy-back clause. This mechanism allows Dortmund to match competitive offers from other clubs, though they do not hold priority and must still reach a personal agreement with the player. Brunner joined Monaco in 2024 for approximately 4 million euros after failing to reach a professional contract agreement with Dortmund. By October 2026, Brunner’s market value has surged, rising from €1.5 million to approximately €15 million. Following a season performance of seven goals and one assist in eight matches, he has attracted interest from major European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly monitoring the forward, while Liverpool is said to be tracking the German U21 international for offensive rotation. Monaco has set a valuation of €30 million for the player. Recent developments highlight Brunner’s continued scoring prowess, having reached eight goals in nine competitive matches, including a goal in a Conference League victory against SC Freiburg. His talent has drawn attention from German national team coach Jürgen Klopp, who previously described him as a “huge talent.”
