Peru football team qualifier preparations
Overview
The Peruvian Football Federation has confirmed that the 2030 World Cup qualifying matches will be staged at three domestic venues – Lima (using both Estadio Nacional and Estadio Monumental), Cusco and Puno – to provide the squad with exposure to different altitudes. América Televisión holds exclusive broadcasting rights for the qualifiers and domestic competitions, with possible streaming on Movistar Deportes and Claro Sports.
Senior coach Mano Menezes has scheduled four North-American friendlies during the September-October 2026 FIFA window: the United States on 26 September in Orlando, Mexico on 29 September in New Jersey, Canada on 3 October at Montreal’s Saputo Stadium, and Colombia on 6 October in Miami. These matches, intended to fine-tune tactics and assess emerging talent, include high-level tests against recent World Cup participants Mexico and Canada.
To further support high-altitude preparation, Menezes and Jean Ferrari have visited Puno to evaluate potential sites for a new high-altitude training center, referred to as a ‘Videna’. The project is being managed by the Peruvian Football Federation, with President Agustín Lozano expected to discuss the initiative further. Menezes emphasized the urgency of the project, noting that the qualifying process begins in late 2027 and construction requires significant time.
In parallel, Peru’s under-17 futsal side will compete in the 2026 CONMEBOL Sub-17 Futsal tournament in Paraguay, beginning with a match against Bolivia on 8 August.
