Poland electric vehicle production project

Overview

Poland is advancing plans to establish an industrial electromobility hub in Jaworzno through the ElectroMobility Poland (EMP) project. The initiative involves a partnership with Taiwan’s Foxconn (Hon Hai Technology Group) and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies to create a European electric vehicle brand with Polish roots.

Strategic developments include a potential rebranding of the project to move away from the ‘Izera’ name to better compete in the European market. The project aims to form a joint venture with a Polish majority stake, with construction in Jaworzno scheduled to begin in early 2027. The first vehicles are projected to be produced by the second half of 2029.

Recent updates indicate that negotiations to finalize the joint venture are expected to conclude by autumn 2024. The project has secured 4.5 billion PLN in funding from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, which has already been credited to the company’s account. A key objective is to achieve a 70 percent local content rate, facilitating a significant transfer of technology and knowledge to bolster domestic engineering and research capabilities.

Expanding the scope of cooperation, Foxconn and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association (TEEMA) are planning significant investments in Poland. Beyond the Jaworzno EV hub, which intends to launch three vehicle models and produce battery packs and drivetrains, a proposed technology park in Miękini, Lower Silesia, is being considered. This site could host manufacturing plants and research centers for AI data center servers, smart city solutions, and EV components, with the combined value of these projects estimated at approximately $20 billion. A formal agreement regarding the technology park is expected to be signed by the end of 2026.
