Joyn expands with ZDF tie‑up and new content lineup
Entities: Ehrmann GmbH · Seven. One Media · Joyn · Warner Bros. Discovery · DMAX
Overview
After a series of low‑rating primetime slots in June 2026, ProSieben introduced a mentalist competition and vodcast format on its Joyn platform, followed by a pop‑culture broadcast of *Ready Player One* in early July. On 14 July 2026 ProSiebenSat.1 negotiated a deal with public broadcaster ZDF to embed ZDF’s on‑demand programmes—news, documentaries, cultural, factual and entertainment titles—into Joyn, free of ads and under ZDF’s editorial control. The partnership, described by ZDF Audience Director Florian Kumb as a “strong, future‑oriented signal” and by ProSiebenSat.1 manager Nicole Agudo Berbel as a defence against international platforms, is slated for launch in the fourth quarter of 2026.
On 21 July 2026 the parties reaffirmed the agreement, confirming that ZDF’s on‑demand catalogue will be available on Joyn as scheduled. A week later Joyn broadened its offering further by adding nine on‑demand channels from Warner Bros. Discovery (including DMAX Blaulicht, DMAX Motor, DMAX Schatzsucher, DMAX Macher, TLC Crime and TLC Mystery) to both live TV and its media library. Concurrently, Seven. One Media rolled out a new advertising product—the Pause Creative Fullscreen Package—that combines the existing Pause Ad with a 10‑second fullscreen slot on live TV, first used by Ehrmann GmbH for its Milk Twist campaign. Both moves aim to boost viewer engagement and revenue for Joyn while strengthening German public‑service visibility in the digital arena.
