Regional development and heritage funding in Ciudad Real

Overview

The Provincial Council of Ciudad Real has implemented various funding initiatives aimed at supporting local heritage and addressing demographic challenges within the province.

Initial efforts included an allocation of over 860,000 euros to Moral de Calatrava to preserve municipal identity and religious heritage. Subsequently, an agreement was signed with the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to invest 850,000 euros into the Territorial Innovation Center (CIT) to support rural development and entrepreneurship.

Expanding its financial scope, the Diputación announced a credit modification of more than 23.6 million euros for provincial municipalities. This funding covers municipal investments, current expenditure, direct subsidies, and road network interventions, including a 10 million euro Works Plan. This initiative supports President Miguel Ángel Valverde’s broader objective to transfer over 100 million euros to provincial municipalities by the end of 2026.

Furthering its support for local administration, the Diputación approved a 7 million euro employment plan. This initiative is designed to provide financial relief to town halls by covering social security costs not addressed by regional programs or by funding new hires. Spokesperson Rocío Zarco stated the measure aims to “give oxygen to the town halls,” allowing them to meet personnel needs without depleting their own resources. Municipalities may choose to allocate funds toward social security contributions or new staff, with the ability to include hires made since January 1, 2026.
