Religious pilgrimages and celebrations in Poland

Overview

Religious communities in Poland have conducted various liturgical celebrations and pilgrimages throughout late July and August 2026.

In early August, the parish of Our Lady of the Snow in Drobnice celebrated its patronal feast on August 9, featuring a solemn Eucharistic procession. Simultaneously, the Polish Orthodox Church held major ceremonies at the Suprask Monastery of the Annunciation on August 9–10 to honor the Suprask Icon of the Mother of God. These celebrations drew large crowds, including organized groups traveling by foot from Białystok, by kayak from Gródki, and, for the first time, pilgrims from Estonia. The ceremonies were presided over by Archbishop Jakub of Białystok and Gdańsk.

In the Podlaskie region, the 31st Walking Pilgrimage of the Military and Uniformed Services traveled to the Holy Mountain of Grabarka, Poland’s most significant Orthodox sanctuary. The pilgrimage included members of the 1st Podlaska Border Defense Brigade, along with participants from the Border Guard, Police, and Fire Service, who carried votive crosses along the route.

Additionally, local traditions were observed in Ciełuszki for the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, involving the blessing of homes and fruits through a priest-led procession.

Earlier festivities in mid-August included the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, with significant gatherings in Kodno and Lutynia, and the elevation of the Church of the Assumption in Bytom to a Marian sanctuary.
