President Curtis spin-off concludes first season

Overview

The animated series ‘Rick and Morty’ completed its ninth season on July 26, 2026, with the episode ‘Field of Dreams.’ Throughout the season, creators Dan Harmon and Scott Marder explored themes such as Rick’s substance abuse and introduced a live-action musical feature film in development, directed by Jacob Hair. The season also featured the return of the antagonist Evil Morty, who was ultimately apprehended by the Time Cops.

Following the season finale, the spin-off ‘President Curtis’ premiered on Adult Swim on July 26, 2026, and debuted on HBO Max on July 27, 2026. Created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, the series follows President Andre Curtis (voiced by Keith David) and his staff, including Agents Banks (Stephanie Beatriz) and O’Doyle (Jim Rash), as they navigate interdimensional diplomacy and paranormal threats. The spin-off was renewed for a second season prior to its premiere, with the second season expected in 2027.

As of September 2026, the first season has concluded. Episode 7, ‘Ghosts,’ aired on September 6, featuring Agent Banks dealing with malware and President Curtis interacting with the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. The season ended with the tenth episode, ‘Timber,’ which centered on a confrontation with a creature appearing to be the folk hero Paul Bunyan. The entity was revealed to be a sentient tree using Bunyan’s head as a puppet to consume humans and spread seeds. To maintain social stability and prevent panic regarding the biological threat, President Curtis allowed the public to believe the incident was a military blunder, despite the impact on his approval ratings. The finale featured a standoff involving Curtis in a combat mech-suit, Chief of Staff Rho Banks, and Secret Service agent Francis O’Doyle.
