Logistics and partnerships for Rugby World Cup Australia
Overview
Major commercial and logistical preparations are underway for the upcoming Rugby World Cups in Australia. World Rugby has established Visa as the Principal Partner and Official Payment Technology Partner for both the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup and the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup. This role includes providing venue payment technology and sponsoring the Player of the Match award. As part of this partnership, eligible Visa cardholders will receive a 48-hour priority window for ticket sales starting 28 September, ahead of the general sale on 1 October. IHG Hotels & Resorts has secured the position of Official Hotel Partner for the 2027 Men’s tournament.
Woolworths has been named the official supermarket supporter for both the 2027 Men’s and 2029 Women’s tournaments. World Rugby Chief Revenue Officer Michelle Posso stated the partnership will “create new opportunities to enhance fan experiences and involve local communities in tournament activities.” Woolworths Chief Marketing Officer Sean Barrett noted the collaboration offers a way to combine sports passion with “fresh local produce.”
The 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup is scheduled to run from 1 October to 13 November, featuring a record 24 teams competing for the Webb Ellis Cup. Opening fixtures include Australia against Hong Kong China in Perth, with matches involving Wales, New Zealand, France, and England distributed across cities including Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, and Sydney. Regarding tournament logistics, World Rugby has confirmed 29 outdoor training venues across Australia. As the tournament approaches, World Rugby is also implementing law changes, including an explicit ban on hip-drop tackles effective November 1, 2026, to increase player safety.
