Musical changes and health concerns on La Ruota della Fortu

Overview

As ‘La Ruota della Fortuna’ transitions into its new season, the program has undergone significant musical restructuring. Following the departure of singer Marco Galeone—who cited a heavy workload of arranging up to 60 songs per week as a primary reason—the resident band rebranded from the ‘Fortuna Five’ to the ‘Fortuna Six’. The new lineup welcomes Alex Mandelli on vocals and guitar to join keyboardist Luca Algisi and drummer Diego Fornaciari.

However, the musical lineup has faced recent disruption. Singer Nicla Ozenda announced a temporary departure from the program due to health concerns. During the October 19 broadcast, Ozenda revealed she has a cyst on one of her vocal cords requiring surgical intervention. She noted she had attempted to manage the issue since January to avoid interrupting her work, but a diagnosis in September necessitated surgery to preserve her singing career. Ozenda anticipates a recovery period of three to four months and expressed her intention to return, stating, “I am sure that this stop will lead me to return stronger than before.” She also addressed online criticism regarding her voice prior to her medical diagnosis, describing host Gerry Scotti as “super human” for his professional support. In her absence, Alice Piombino will step in to perform.

The announcement prompted an emotional reaction in the studio, including tears from host Gerry Scotti. The show, in its 23rd edition on Canale 5 hosted by Scotti and Samira Lui, continues to see competitive viewership and significant winnings, including a historic 430,100 euro streak by contestant Giulia Smargiassi.
