Spanish bank financing initiatives 2026

Overview

In April 2026 Santander doubled its support for the University of Sunderland, launched a €1 billion three‑year programme for Uber fleet operators in Spain, Germany and Italy, and introduced the Navigator Global platform to help SMEs expand overseas. This built on the bank’s €25.4 billion financing of 190,000 Spanish firms abroad in 2025, signalling a strategy that mixes education aid, mobility financing and trade‑finance tools.

A June CBRE lender‑intentions survey showed about 70 % of lenders planning to raise real‑estate financing in Spain in 2026, with 80 % ready to back development projects across residential, logistics, hotel, premium office and retail assets that meet ESG standards.

The European Investment Bank and Banco Sabadell confirmed a €975 million securitisation for Spanish SMEs and mid‑caps, allocating up to €164 million for security‑and‑defence projects and €71.5 million for green loans to boost credit access, digitalisation and sustainability.

New vehicles entered the market: Renta 4 partnered with former Árima executive Guillermo Fernández‑Cuesta Laborde to launch the Ahma Seed Capital Venture fund targeting value‑added real‑estate assets in Madrid, Barcelona and logistics sites, while Ares Management expanded financing for its SOCIMI Daria 323 through an €86 million ING loan, supporting 500‑plus affordable‑housing units and protected‑housing projects in Madrid slated for 2026.

In July, CaixaBank renewed its financing pact with the employers’ confederation CEOE, adding the small‑business federation CEPYME. The agreement commits at least 75 % of the planned €50 billion volume by 2026 to SMEs, offering working‑capital, medium‑ and long‑term investment loans and support for innovation, internationalisation and entrepreneurship. Concurrently, the Spanish Association of Corporate Finance (Acorfi) was launched to publish market analysis, promote best‑practice standards, facilitate M&A networking and liaise with regulators to improve financing conditions for Spanish companies, especially SMEs.
