Simon Leviev dating app launch
Overview
Simon Leviev, the individual featured in the Netflix documentary ‘The Tinder Swindler’, has announced plans to launch a new dating application. Following a permanent ban from Tinder, Leviev expressed that the notoriety from the film has been beneficial, stating, ‘The Tinder Swindler is the best thing that ever happened to me.’
Leviev, whose real name is Shimon Yehuda Hayut, has identified the new platform as ‘Safe Love’. He claims his history with romance scams provides unique insight to develop technology to prevent deceptive behavior. He intends to use facial verification to protect users from fraudulent profiles and describes himself as a ‘rehabilitated man’. In an interview with ITV, he stated he aims to use his past experiences to help users navigate online dating safely and to teach men how to treat women with respect.
The announcement has faced industry opposition. The Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA)—also referred to as the Association for Online Dating and Acquaintance—has contacted Apple and Google, requesting they refuse to list or remove any dating application operated by Leviev. Executive Director Simon Newman warned that the involvement of a convicted fraudster undermines efforts to combat fraud and poses a serious risk to users and platforms.
New details regarding ‘Safe Love’ indicate the platform will implement mandatory official government ID verification paired with a registration selfie. The app will utilize biometric comparison to ensure profile photos match a user’s identity, automatically rejecting accounts if visual discrepancies exceed 15%. Additionally, the app plans to include an SOS emergency button for in-person dates that automatically records audio and video to share in dangerous situations. The project is reportedly in the final stages of the regulatory process and could launch in the coming weeks.
