Social scholarship and educational assistance updates

In Argentina and Chile, regional and national authorities are implementing updates to social scholarship and educational assistance programs.

In San Clemente, the municipality expanded its student scholarship access by removing grade point average requirements for students in special education or primary education with disabilities. The Municipal Council also allocated 79,720,000 pesos to fund a waiting list of 328 students. Concurrently, the Province of Buenos Aires adjusted payment amounts for administrative, professional, and coordination roles within several social programs, including the School Food Service (SAE) and Child Development Units (UDI), effective August 2026. These adjustments, which are retroactive to July, set coordination roles at 1,110,976 pesos, professionals at 980,272 pesos, and administrative staff at 849,570 pesos.

At the national level in Argentina, the Ministry of Human Capital, led by Sandra Pettovello, has opened the second call for the 2026 Becas Progresar program. This initiative provides monthly payments of $35,000, totaling up to $420,000 annually. Eligibility is based on age, citizenship, vaccination status, and a combined family income limit of three Minimum, Vital, and Mobile Salaries (SMVM). Application deadlines vary by category: the mandatory education line closed in early September, while the Higher Education and Nursing lines have deadlines through September 11, 2026. Age requirements range from 16 to 35 depending on the specific track, though nursing students face no age limit.
