South Aegean regional development initiatives

Overview

The South Aegean Region has introduced several initiatives aimed at regional development and skill enhancement for residents of the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands.

In late August 2026, the region announced an entrepreneurship support program providing 60% subsidies for investment plans between €30,000 and €400,000. This program targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sectors such as tourism, agri-food, fisheries, renewable energy, and green technologies to enhance competitiveness and international presence.

Following this, the region, in collaboration with the University of the Aegean, launched a new autumn cycle of the Aegean Skills program. Starting September 7, 2026, this initiative offers free training courses in diverse fields including first aid, tourism marketing, and educational robotics. The program builds on a successful cycle that saw approximately 1,800 registrations since February 2026.
