South Korea LH accelerates housing delivery

Entities: Gwangmyeong‑Siheung public housing zone · Goyang · Lee Seong‑hoon · Seogu district, Gwangju · Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH)

Overview

In early July 2026 President Lee Jae‑myung appointed former presidential secretary Lee Seong‑hoon as president of Korea Land & Housing Corp (LH). Lee was sworn in and outlined five priority tasks, including speeding up housing delivery, improving public‑home quality, supporting balanced regional growth, leveraging AI and ESG‑based management, and enhancing safety.

Since taking office, Lee has acted swiftly to implement those priorities. LH announced the launch of 2,306 homes in the Goyang‑Changreung third‑new‑town project and 378 units in Gunpo’s Daeyami public‑rental‑to‑sale conversion, part of a 2026 procurement plan worth about 17 trillion won. He visited the Seoripul district and ordered the construction schedule for the flagship development to be moved forward by more than a year, targeting a 2028 start for its first phase, which could eventually provide up to 20,000 units. LH is pairing public‑rental units with profit‑sharing models and adding youth‑focused and mid‑size apartments, while reinforcing heat‑wave safety checks.

LH has now accelerated the compensation process for the Gwangmyeong‑Siheung new‑town project, beginning payments on July 31—four months ahead of the original November schedule. About 13,000 land and structure owners will receive lump‑sum settlements covering land, underground facilities and business rights, with negotiations slated to run for five months. Expanded staff and a new reservation system at the U‑Planet Tower office aim to streamline the process. The 12.71 million‑m² site is slated to deliver 67,000 housing units—including 13,000 for public sale and 24,000 for public rental—by the end of 2027, bolstering supply in the southwestern Seoul metropolitan area.
