Telangana drug enforcement crackdown

Overview

In July 2026, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE Force) of the Hyderabad Narcotics Police raided a poultry farm in Mahabubnagar district, uncovering a clandestine alprazolam manufacturing unit. Officers seized 1.150 kg of the benzodiazepine, equipment and chemicals, and arrested four suspects, including the alleged mastermind.

A week later, the force conducted two high‑profile operations. In Medchal‑Malkajgiri district, six suspects were detained and 1.189 kg of alprazolam, cash, phones and a vehicle were seized, targeting a scheme that supplied the drug to toddy vendors. In Khammam district, a separate raid intercepted an interstate cannabis network moving 400 kg of dry ganja from Odisha to Karnataka, resulting in the seizure of the drug, three traffickers and additional vehicles.

By late August 2026, the investigation into interstate drug networks expanded significantly. Following the arrest of 15 individuals and the seizure of 32.5 kg of alprazolam, the EAGLE Force seized assets estimated at Rs 6 crore, allegedly acquired through illegal trafficking. The probe linked the network to illegal manufacturing operations in Maharashtra, specifically involving Surya Prabha Pharma Chem in Satara and Rashi Trader Chemical Factory in Ahmednagar.

In early September 2026, enforcement efforts expanded to include large-scale inspections of chemical establishments. A five-day joint operation involving TG-SAFE and 10 specialized teams inspected 83 establishments across eight districts, including Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Nalgonda. These inspections targeted the procurement and sale of controlled precursors such as acetic anhydride, anthranilic acid, ephedrine, and pseudoephedrine to prevent diversion into illicit manufacturing. Concurrently, operations targeting interstate alprazolam networks involving Telangana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra resulted in the seizure of assets valued at approximately Rs 3.02 crore.
