Turkey's Kacır drives industrial, smart‑city, zero‑waste

Overview

In early July 2026 Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır opened a cardboard plant in Zonguldak, launching a broader push to expand domestic manufacturing. He then travelled to Konya, where 12 new industrial projects were inaugurated and agreements for 33 additional initiatives were signed, totalling about 11.1 billion lira, with roughly half state‑financed. He outlined a longer‑term plan that includes ten additional projects worth 177 million lira by year‑end and a 2027 programme of roughly 300 million lira for tourism, agriculture, livestock and a “Green Road” corridor.

On 6 August 2026 Kacır led a Zero Waste, Environment and Climate Change workshop in Trabzon, convening more than 240 officials, university leaders and industry heads at the Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center. Participants examined 51 pilot proposals covering rain‑water harvesting in public buildings, sensor‑driven drip irrigation, solar‑powered smart‑charging networks, electric‑bus expansion, plastic barriers for river mouths and the conversion of organic waste into natural fertilizer. The event reinforced the Ministry’s Zero Waste Movement, slated for a 2027 launch, which aims to cut waste generation, raise recycling rates to around 40 % and promote circular‑economy solutions nationwide.
