Turkish state performing arts institutions have announced their artistic repertoires for the 2026-2027 season.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres introduced a season under the motto “Hazır mıyız?” (Are we ready?), with General Art Director Ayşegül İşsever noting that productions will address contemporary issues such as the climate crisis, migration, and artificial intelligence. Planned works include “Hayalî’nin Hayali”, which examines Turkish and Greek migrant stories, alongside works by Bertolt Brecht and William Shakespeare.
Simultaneously, state opera and ballet institutions released their schedules. The Samsun State Opera and Ballet (SAMDOB) planned to open with a gala concert on September 12, featuring upcoming premieres such as the ballet Don Quixote. The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (İDOB) scheduled its season opener for September 19 with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, with subsequent premieres including the modern ballet ‘Afife’ and the opera ‘Palto’.
