Ubatuba municipal education policy development
Overview
In Ubatuba, local authorities have initiated the development of long-term educational frameworks. The municipality began drafting its Municipal Education Plan (PME) for the 2026–2036 period, intended to establish objectives and strategies for local public policies by analyzing regional data and population demands.
Regarding the PME, the Management Commission recently met at the Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (UNIVESP) to align the work schedule. Guided by training from the Ministry of Education (MEC), the commission is conducting an educational diagnosis to evaluate student access, retention, learning, inclusion, and teaching conditions. This data collection phase is expected to conclude by late October, with consolidation and priority setting scheduled for November.
Parallel to the PME, the Secretary of Education has launched a specific initiative to develop a Municipal Special Education Policy. This policy aims to strengthen services and rights for students through an inclusive education lens. To ensure the policy represents local reality and provides “permanent guidance for the educational network,” as stated by Education Secretary Claudinei dos Santos, the municipality has released a form to gather community feedback.
Furthering educational development, the Ubatuba Department of Education and the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) are advancing a partnership focused on teacher training. This collaboration emphasizes ancestral knowledge and traditional communities. Students have submitted 11 proposals for new course subjects designed to integrate the wisdom of indigenous peoples and peripheral territories into academic curricula. These proposals are intended for the Rural Education degree program, with a projected rollout by 2028, aiming to foster anti-racist education and bridge the gap between academic study and cultural practices.
