Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 opens
Overview
The Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 officially opened on November 1, 2026, at the Nong Dae wetland area in Thailand. Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Department of Agriculture, and local provincial authorities, the event runs through March 14, 2027.
Under the theme “Diversity of Life: Connections of People, Water, and Plants towards Sustainable Living,” the expo features 32 international gardens from 17 countries and two international organizations, as well as 16 gardens from Thai government and private sector entities. The exhibition showcases over one million ornamental plants and rare species, including desert and olive gardens and giant kapok trees from South America.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the opening ceremony, highlighting the expo as a platform to showcase Thailand’s biodiversity, agricultural innovation, and the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy model. The event aims to promote sustainable living and climate change resilience through the integration of technology and plant conservation.
Certified by the International Horticultural Association, the 134 day event aims to attract approximately 3.6 million tourists and stimulate the economy by an estimated 20 billion baht. Economic projections also include the creation of 81,000 jobs and a 7.7 billion baht increase in tax revenue. To support visitor influx, the State Railway of Thailand has established a temporary stop at the expo site.
In conjunction with the expo, government officials visited the Udon Thani College of Agriculture and Technology to monitor the “Tailor-Made Fertilizer” project. This multi-ministerial initiative uses soil analysis to create customized fertilizer formulas, which has reportedly reduced chemical fertilizer costs by 50% during its pilot phase. Additionally, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) is showcasing smart farming technologies and digital innovations to support the transition toward a sustainable, high-tech agricultural model.
