Unicamp 60th anniversary celebrations

The University of Campinas (Unicamp) marked its 60th anniversary through various cultural and educational events in Campinas, Brazil.

Initial celebrations included the itinerant exhibition ‘60 anos da Unicamp: Três cidades, uma história’ at the Museu da Cidade – Casa de Vidro, which utilized photographs and documents to show the university’s impact on the development of Campinas, Piracicaba, and Limeira. Additionally, the Feira Conexão Social was held at Lagoa do Taquaral, featuring local NGOs and cultural performances.

The anniversary period culminated in the 21st edition of the Unicamp Open Doors program (UPA 2026). This event saw record attendance, with approximately 60,694 participants traveling from various Brazilian states to visit the Barão Geraldo campus. Programming included activities at the Cesar Lattes Central Library focused on innovation and sustainability, historical exhibitions by the Unicamp Memory Center, and cultural workshops by the Confucius Institute.

As the 60th anniversary approaches, Unicamp was recognized in the Top of Mind VTV SBT 2026 survey as the most remembered brand in its category by residents of Campinas. Rector Paulo Cesar Montagner emphasized the institution’s role as a hub for advanced research, noting a portfolio of over one thousand active patents. To support innovation, the agency Inova Unicamp launched the 13th edition of Inova Jovem 2026, a national entrepreneurship competition for high school and technical students aged 13 to 21. The program provides mentorship for developing business models based on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
