UPSC examination updates and schedules

Overview

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released updates regarding various recruitment examinations in 2026. In July, the commission announced the written results for the Engineering Services (Main) Examination, with 1,340 candidates qualifying for the Personality Test stage. In August, the UPSC released the official schedule for the Combined Defence Services (II) Examination, set for September 13, 2026. The exam will consist of three shifts covering English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. Candidates applying for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, or Air Force Academy must complete all three papers, while those applying for the Officers' Training Academy are only required to take the English and General Knowledge exams. Candidates are advised to use only black ballpoint pens for OMR sheets.

Regarding the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2026, the UPSC has released the admit cards. This examination is also scheduled for September 13, 2026, to fill 394 vacancies, featuring a mathematics exam followed by a General Ability Test. Candidates are instructed to verify all printed information on their e-Admit Cards and present a printed copy alongside a valid photo ID at the venue.

The 2026 Civil Services (Main) Examination is currently underway. Following the release of admit cards in mid-August, the two-phase schedule began on August 21. Recent analyses have evaluated the ‘hit ratio’ of the examination by comparing questions in the Essay and General Studies (GS) Papers 1 through 4 against previous practice materials. Concurrently, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in New Delhi has issued a notice to the UPSC regarding a legal challenge to the 2026 CSE Prelims involving alleged factual errors in General Studies Paper-I.
