Argentina Prix Baron B competition

Overview

In late July 2026, the Argentine edition of the Prix Baron B culinary prize highlighted two stages of its annual cycle. On 23 July, three Argentine chefs—Facundo Maroñas, Francisco Soldi and Elio Contreras—were announced as winners of the Prix Baron B – Édition Cuisine. Their award includes a three-month internship at Mauro Colagreco’s three-star restaurant Mirazur in France and a cash prize of 3 million Argentine pesos. The win was positioned as a showcase for sustainable seafood and Argentine marine products.

A week later, on 30 July, the competition disclosed the three finalists for its eighth edition: Anna Restaurante de Campo in Chaco, Alcanfor in Buenos Aires, and Crujiente in Ushuaia. A jury chaired by Colagreco selected projects that combine culinary excellence with sustainable practices and strong territorial identity. The finalists will present live dishes at the 27 August final at the Faena Art Center, emphasizing regenerative farming, circular-economy sourcing, and regional flavors.

By mid-August, details regarding the finalists emerged. Crujiente, a private dining restaurant in Ushuaia led by Leandro Giménez and Camila Fernández, was highlighted for its focus on Tierra del Fuego’s identity. The establishment utilizes a tasting menu centered on local ingredients and responsible fishing, collaborating with local producers, fishermen, and gatherers to reflect the regional landscape.

During this period, jury member Dolli Irigoyen emphasized the importance of sustainability for the Prix Baron B, stating that “the future passes through cooking with awareness.” Additionally, the restaurant República del Fuego in Buenos Aires was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction for its high-quality, fire-based cooking techniques.
